Getting to Madrid

Located right in the centre of Spain, Madrid is very well connected to the rest of the country and to the rest of the world, and can be easily reached by plane, train, coach, and car; its excellent transport system allows you to get around the city quickly and safely.

All flights, whether low-cost or standard carriers, fly into Madrid’s main and only international airport called Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport, which is well connected and close to the city centre.

Located just 8 miles (13 km) northeast of the capital, allowing passengers to save considerable time and money travelling to and from it (about 30 minutes by public transport).

Madrid-Barajas Airport was opened in 1928, although it was officially inaugurated three years later and over the years it has become Europe’s fifth most important airport by number of passengers. It has four terminals in operation; T4 was the last to be built and was inaugurated in February 2006 making Barajas one of the largest airports in the world by physical size.
